Creating assignments in a Google Classroom-connected account follows the same process as non-Google Classroom accounts. But there are some things to keep in mind with the "Open Dates" field.
Google Classroom is a Premium Feature only. If you would like to use the Google Classroom integration, but are not a Premium subscriber yet, you can change your subscription plan at any time by visiting "My Settings" and selecting "Change Plan."
1. Click on your classroom from the Garbanzo dashboard
2. Click on Create Assignment
3. Choose Lesson(s)
Check the box by the lessons you want to assign, verify the dates, and classroom. NOTE: If the open date is left as today's date, then that lesson is available in Google Classroom today and cannot be changed unless you delete the assignment and reassign it with a later date.
4. Click on Create 1 Assignment
5. Assignment Creation is In Progress
A button with the label Building indicates that Garbanzo is creating the assignment and synchronizing with Google Classroom. The button will turn green and the label will change to Ready when the process is complete.
6. Assignment is synched with Google Classroom
If you see the words Google Classroom in green font with a checkmark then Garbanzo and Google Classroom are in sync. The assignments exist and the dates are the same.
7. Edit the Assignment Open Date
A common activity in Garbanzo is changing a published assignment's Open date so that it opens at a specific time in the future. Google Classroom does not allow this action if the assignment has already been published. But Garbanzo does. These steps detail how to reconcile the difference.
8. Choose Assignments
9. Click on Edit 1 Assignment Date
This will open the date editor.
10. Click on Opens
11. Click on Save Dates for 1 Assignment
12. Note the Disclaimer
At this point, the open date will be changed inside Garbanzo but not in Google Classroom. The result is that your students will see the assignment in Google Classroom but will not be able to access it in Garbanzo.
13. Click on Close
This closes the date editor.
14. Click on Google Classroom
If you see the words Google Classroom in orange font with an exclamation mark, then assignment dates in Garbanzo and Google Classroom are out of sync. The open date will often be the culprit.
15. Click on Close
16. Check the box by the out of sync assignment
17. Click on Edit 1 Assignment Date
18. Click on Opens
To synchronize the dates, you need to change the Open Date back to what it originally was when you published the assignment. For this example, that date is Jan 24, 2022.
19. Click on Save Dates for 1 Assignment
After you click the button, Garbanzo will attempt to resync the assignment with Google Classroom.
20. Success!
If the synchronization is successful, you'll see the green success message.
21. Click on Close
